broadcasting

Before I was not so sure if I really care about the effects of media or broadcasting in our lives.I mean, what the heck do I care? It doesn't bother me anyway. But then after some clips and discussions that were brought to us, I realized I was wrong. I learned.
Broadcasting had affected our whole lives since it first started.
As a Communication Arts student, I can say that broadcasting plays a very huge role in the society. And I know everyone in the CA community knows it already.
Televison is a medium of broadcasting. And most of the people have television inside their house so it reaches every one of us.
But broadcasting affecting our lives is not a negative idea right? Yes there are situations that it gets harmful but as a whole, for me it is just a good example of what life has to offer after the information revolutions.
Being here in the world for sixteen years already, I experienced a lot of change in the society and in the community even in this country. Now, I know that media is the one of those who is to blame.
One example is the EDSA I. That event changed the views of other country to ours. Because of that they saw us Filipinos as brave and nationalistic countrymen. That event gave us more respect from other countries. How did they know about that? Of course because of media. Broadcasting let the other country see how we fought for our government and for our country. Another is the controversy about our nurses who cheated in order to pas the board examination. It reached other countries to by means of television and so those batch were banned of working abroad. After that controversy, it left a dirty image of our country. See? It changed something.
Even those simple things that media brings out change something in us. Example, when we see in the television that this or that look is out of the season, we'll change our looks. And we follow directions to media like, when the weather man guy told that its going to rain, we'll bring umbrellas right? What if it did not rain? Our bringing of umbrella is worthless. It really is changing the way we live life. It somehow made it a bit complicated but that is it and that's the way it is now.

Lessons Learned (print media)

I already expected that doing our very own magazine will not be easy but I did not expect it to be that hard.
Being through this somehow an experience that is full of ups and downs, I discovered a lot of things about myself and my blockmates. We had a roller coaster ride upon doing TAHO, our magazine.
When we were told to do our magazine, we were all so excited. We have been so eager to make one and everyone has their own ideas to make our magazine work.
Our professor divided the works in different groups and department. The whole class had their choice to go to a group or department that they really would be working.
We started to work smoothly and we're fine. Until one day, we found out that we are lacking on funds. If there's no fund, there is no magazine. So we started to panic a little bit. Luckily we figured out a way through that problem of ours and we made it through productions. But yet, another crisis came to us before we did the production. The first finished lay-out turned out to be a bit of a failure because it did not turn out so good. So our CA3 heroes came to the rescue and rearranged or should I say, redevelop the lay-out and voila! Here comes TAHO! Simple, but better!
After that we are back in the business! It only took us two days and we sold it all out. It's not that am boasting about it but I am just proud of what we have done.
In all of these I learned new things and saw them perspectively.
First, all for one and one for all. Everyone has to do his/her job to make it all work. In this kind of work, it's not appropriate to give one person a big part than anyone. Even the small parts should be done by a team so that it's faster and easier.WERE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER right?!
Second, patience is a virtue. All of us were really anxious to see the finished product not knowing the drama behind the making of it. It made me realize the important of having patience because this is for all of us not only for me. And also, me being patient came in handy because it paid a price; I am sure that I am happy with the work we had.
Third, give your best shot. It's not like were doing magazines everyday or every week, so why don't we give our 100% of what we do. Not only in this experience but for all that we do, lets give it all we can. You might be surprised after knowing what price you got for trying your best in things you really want.
Fourth, never lose hope. Yeah I really had thought of it. In times like these, we should really never lose hope. Simply because if you lose hope, you'll lose yourself, and when you lose yourself, you'll mess everything. That's why. Try to smile through things.
Lastly, thank God! never forget that His the one who made it all possible and He was always there through all this thing so we should thank Him. He never left our sides since the very beggining. We should never forget His divine presence. And we should thank him always because that's really a must. So Lord, thank you.
I really learned a lot from this experience and this is surely unforgettable for me so I'm thankful that we were given a chance to do TAHO. On behalf of 1CA3, I would like to thank those who supported us and those who believed that we can do this!Till next issue. (if there will be another)

Thanks to the Fourth Information Revolution

I have been fascinated by the cameras, movies and the use of radios for entertainment since I was a kid. I’ve been wondering how those things work and how it were developed. And through understanding the fourth revolution, which is all about entertainment, I realized that I have so much to thank to those who pioneered the development of media.
I also like to think how something starts for the sake of entertainment. Why did it start? And who is it entertaining? The fourth revolution of mass media helped me solve some of these questions.
I like reading the entertainment sections on newspapers and magazines and I really want to know how it began. So by reading this revolution, my knowledge was broadened and realized that the steps that these kinds of media was not that easy of that what I’m thinking.
But what matters to me most in this revolution is the invention and the first entertainment development of radios, cameras and the showing of the first films. I realized, I owe a lot to those who sacrificed sweat and blood for media that’s what we are now enjoying. We really owe them a lot.
If it wasn’t for Thomas Young or for Leon Scott or Charles Cros or Thomas Edison, we wouldn’t know what is a voice-recording machine is. They were the inventors and developers of the starting point of entertainment.
Thanks also to Frank Conrad who first did a broadcast in his garage. He’s the father of DJs.
When I knew that advertisements on radio before made some listeners offended, I realized, yeah I would also be offended but, then why should I?
Also, what bothered me the most before, is that, what does KODAK means? I mean, what word is that? And after I read this revolution, I thought, there is really nothing to worry about that word because it don’t have any meaning at all. I felt disappointed after knowing the truth. But that’s fine; at least I don’t have to think about it anymore. (No more nosebleeds). I also wish I have a brownie camera because it’s very unique. I saw the difference of the cameras from now and from way back then.
And then the movies started to tell stories. I really want to give thanks to George Melies, Edwin Porter, D.W. Griffith, the Warner Brothers and Herbert Kalmus for giving such gargantuan contributions in the field of cinema. They are the ones who pioneered the development of films.
I wonder if they never thought of doing what they did, what will happen to us now? Will we still have this wonderful technology in media that we are experiencing? I guess not. So we better honor their wonderful deeds also.
In the end, I learned a lot of new things that I can carry on through the rest of my life. There’s no doubt that I should really be thanking them. My life circles with media on it. I can never imagine myself having no interactions to media. So I don’t think I can live without it. That’s why I’m so thankful to them. The true heroes of the entertainment!

Cinemas Now and Then

The idea of a cinema nowadays is surely different than the concept of a cinema from way back then. Based on what I have grown up on, negatively, films these days are more violent, and more obscene.
Films these days are more violent. Wars like these, wars like that; murders, ghost killings, riots and gun wars also. And even children can watch these films.
Films now are also obscene. They say this generation is much liberated than before. But still, they shouldn’t produce films like that because we live in a moral world (well at least most of us). Again these films reach children. Their innocence is diminishing because of films like these.
Films nowadays are often unreal. They often make films that are very untrue. These films are not so negative but they create these films just to get our minds out of this world and into the world of our imaginations. Harry Potter, Transformers, X-men, fantastic four. These are films that are so-so.
Cinemas way back then are often about the life of this, the life of that. There are some films before that are also violent and obscene but they are more refined and more wholesome than the films now. They are also about fiction but not that much of like this century.
And when it comes to the birth of cinemas way, way back then, cinema really changed hugely.
On the other hand, what’s good in the films these days, films are already synchronized with the technology so when technology’s up by a notch, films also follow.
Technology has done well in facilitating the cinemas. If before, George Melies had so much difficulty stretching a film up to 15 minutes, because of technology, we can now watch an hour and a half film with no worries. And if before, there is only one angle shot; now there are more angles that can be seen on a film, thanks to Edwin Porter for the utilizing film editing.
More changes the cinema had experienced. The coming of the sound, and the coming of colors. Thanks a lot to the Warner Brothers, “The Jazz Singer” was watched and heard for the first time. Thanks also to Herbert Kalmus, “Gone with the Wind” was the first film in Technicolor. Since then, it’s history. Technology upgraded the quality of the cinema. But of course if it weren’t to them who helped and discover those ideas about the films, we wouldn’t be having any fun watching films because there won’t be films to watch. So therefore I conclude that we owe them what films we are watching right now. We won’t see Harry’s different angles if it wasn’t to Porter’s contribution to cinema right. So we should never forget them.
Yes, the cinema had changed. But beside the negative changes, as a whole, the cinema had changed for good. That’s right. Films now are more fun and relaxing to watch. And even if there are a lot of changes done in the cinema today, its essence is still there. And it will never change. It will always be for the sake of the entertainment of the people.

weeks in my class

My first week.. i kinda felt so alone.. i felt like i'm nowhere else but in an old library.. a lot of people but no one to talk to... i was so shy... i don't know what to do... i don't know what to say... i felt so awkward coz i'm not that type of person... i used to be so wild and loud, but now.. it's just like i'm losing in a crowd (rhyming?)... it's hard for me to be with these guys that i don't know much but i'm willing to spend with them the rest of my college life...

My second week was a relief... i kinda went out of my shell and communicate with them... but still i felt something is missing... i don't know what it is.. but i know it's gonna be fine... i started to open my mouth a little bit... and tried to reach out to them... the feeling was great realizing that i will be with them for four years (hopefully) i just have to study more and focus myself with one goal... to finish this course that i've started...

My third week was the best so far.. but this week also i felt a bit out of place (OP)... since we all knew each other.. i don't know who to be with and who to not deal with.. i want to please everybody but i want to find somebody or some who will be my companion through thick and thin... so since i haven't found the right ones yet... i just be focusing on my studies...

By the way, i've entered this school (UST) and enrolled in this course (CA) not knowing what is it all about... i didn't know yet what my dream was... but then of course with a little bit of information from my classmates and my professor, i kinda realize.. this is where i wanna be.. this is where i'm meant to be... that Communication Arts is the course for me... through its introduction.. i felt a connection between me and the media... i felt like i'm gonna be liking this course as i liked America's Next Top Model..(hehe)

Well lets just see what's gonna happen...
