I have been fascinated by the cameras, movies and the use of radios for entertainment since I was a kid. I’ve been wondering how those things work and how it were developed. And through understanding the fourth revolution, which is all about entertainment, I realized that I have so much to thank to those who pioneered the development of media.
I also like to think how something starts for the sake of entertainment. Why did it start? And who is it entertaining? The fourth revolution of mass media helped me solve some of these questions.
I like reading the entertainment sections on newspapers and magazines and I really want to know how it began. So by reading this revolution, my knowledge was broadened and realized that the steps that these kinds of media was not that easy of that what I’m thinking.
But what matters to me most in this revolution is the invention and the first entertainment development of radios, cameras and the showing of the first films. I realized, I owe a lot to those who sacrificed sweat and blood for media that’s what we are now enjoying. We really owe them a lot.
If it wasn’t for Thomas Young or for Leon Scott or Charles Cros or Thomas Edison, we wouldn’t know what is a voice-recording machine is. They were the inventors and developers of the starting point of entertainment.
Thanks also to Frank Conrad who first did a broadcast in his garage. He’s the father of DJs.
When I knew that advertisements on radio before made some listeners offended, I realized, yeah I would also be offended but, then why should I?
Also, what bothered me the most before, is that, what does KODAK means? I mean, what word is that? And after I read this revolution, I thought, there is really nothing to worry about that word because it don’t have any meaning at all. I felt disappointed after knowing the truth. But that’s fine; at least I don’t have to think about it anymore. (No more nosebleeds). I also wish I have a brownie camera because it’s very unique. I saw the difference of the cameras from now and from way back then.
And then the movies started to tell stories. I really want to give thanks to George Melies, Edwin Porter, D.W. Griffith, the Warner Brothers and Herbert Kalmus for giving such gargantuan contributions in the field of cinema. They are the ones who pioneered the development of films.
I wonder if they never thought of doing what they did, what will happen to us now? Will we still have this wonderful technology in media that we are experiencing? I guess not. So we better honor their wonderful deeds also.
In the end, I learned a lot of new things that I can carry on through the rest of my life. There’s no doubt that I should really be thanking them. My life circles with media on it. I can never imagine myself having no interactions to media. So I don’t think I can live without it. That’s why I’m so thankful to them. The true heroes of the entertainment!
